![]() ![]() For example, the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable can be used by apps built using the Visual Studio 2015, 2017, or 2019 toolsets. Visual Studio versions since Visual Studio 2015 share the same redistributable files. Steam may DOWNLOAD them but it doesn't reinstall them if it detects that the redistributable is already installed thus corrupted files can be a thing.Īs for needing a older VC for older stuff well no ♥♥♥♥ sherlock.īut last i check VC also gets security updates and fixs since Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022 are all in one pack wile 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 are separate and no longer get updates. Also, upgrading for no reason is not necessarily good practice. Downgrade to an older VC, yes, but search out a newer? Never. Never, not once, in 40+ years of PC gaming have I had to download a VC redist when one was included in a game package. If a newer (or newly purchased) game requires or contains a newer version, it will be updated at that time. The version included with the game is the version required for the game. It's not "good practice", it's unnecessary work. This is the entire reason for people recently spamming discussion boards with "what's this new update" for older games. There is no need to go to MS for the "latest" version as any "latest" version will ALSO be made available within Steam as it is required. ![]() The redist the game is intended to work with is included.
